should point out you're looking live at the auditorium at the newtown high school. about 900 people fit and an overflow in the gym of 1300 and staff and students of sandy hook elementary are actually in the crowd and they're wearing green and white ribbons. the town's and the school's colors with a small angel in the middle of them. we're told that this service will be delayed a bit because the president is still meeting with these family members and classrooms at the high school. and he's taking his time with these families in individual classrooms. we don't have a start time yet. it could be possibly at the bottom of the hour. we don't know as of yet. they'll give us the best cues they can, but he is meeting with these-- with these families one by one and also meeting with first responders. and picking up on what charles said. >> yeah, i mean, i was just going to point out when you talk about, you know, heroes and human moments and the stories that we've heard about these teachers over the course of the last 24 hours. >> the principal and-- >> the principal. >> the psychiatrist. >

virginia tech in newtown, connecticut, 50 miles southwest of connecticut state capital, and 60 miles from our studio in new york city. cops identified the shooter as 24-year-old man, ryan lanza. police say at 9:30 they received an emergency call from the school right after the school, or around the town the school usually looks the doors. the killer, dressed in mock military gear, armed with two guns as he opened fire inside the school. his victims? teachers and children. >> we spotted the troopers and the newtown police entered the school and me began a complete active shooter seven including checking every door and every crack and every portion of the school. our objective was to evacuate as quickly as possible. >> officials have not confirmed the number of dead saying that they are in the process of notifying families. the officials said the shooter died inside the school. it is unclear if he took his own life or if police killed him. there are reports that the man's mother was found dead and investigators are questioning a second person. this is a developing story. jonathan hunt

learned about the connecticut shooting investigation. i am bill himer. live in newtown, connecticut. e. fox report. 36 hours removed from a gunman unleashing a shooting massacre in the elementary school. population 600 students from kindergarten to fourth. it is a day that changed the housetown forever. machines -- members of the shooter family releasing a statement saying they felt heart felt sorrow. each of the 22 children who died was aged 6 or 7 and all thought to be in the first grade. 12 of them were girls and eight were boys, the gunman shot child multiple times. we are told that at least one child was shot 11 times inside of the classroom. this is a picture of the gunman identified as 20 year old adam lanza that is a picture from six years ago at the age of 14. he lived with his mother in the town of newtown 10 miles from the school. a school that he drove his own mother's car to waking up in the morn shooting her in the head. today we heard from the shooter's aunt. she said the mother home schooled him after a dispute with the public school system, but no one in the family exp
